William Ruto attended Kerotet Primary School, Wareng Secondary School and Kapsabet Boys High School in Nandi County. He obtained a degree in Botany and Zoology from University of Nairobi, Kenya in 1990

William Ruto holds a masters degree and PhD in Plant Ecology from the University of Nairobi in 2011 and 2018 respectively.

Career

William Ruto was elected to the Kenyan parliament in 1997 under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

He was the Minister for Home Affairs in 2002 and the minister for Agriculture between 2008 and 2010.

He served briefly as the minister for Higher Education in 2010 while retaining his seat in the Kenyan parliament.
