John Cho Will Lead Cowboy Bebop for Netflix, So Lets Giddyup!
Yee-haw season is upon us, and the yee-haw agenda is strong. Next up: Netflix’s ten-episode live-action adaption of the space-Western anime Cowboy Bebop, which The Hollywood Reporter says will star John Cho. The Searching star will play Spike Spiegel, “an impossibly cool ‘cowboy’ (bounty hunter) with a deadly smile, a wry wit and style to spare. He travels the solar system with his ex-cop partner, Jet, pursuing the future’s most dangerous bounties with a combination of charm, charisma — and deadly Jeet Kune Do,” per Netflix. Spiegel works on the spaceship Bebop, hunting down dangerous space criminals alongside other bounty hunters.
Rounding out the cast are Mustafa Shakir, Daniella Pineda, and Alex Hassell. Shakir is Spiegel’s “honest cop” partner, Pineda is a con artist, and Hassell is Spiegel’s dangerous, deadly ex-partner. The director of the original anime, Shinichiro Watanabe, is consulting. Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Cloak & Dagger alum will direct the first two installments. Giddyup while the getting’s good!
